Hyundai ELANTRA Dashboard Warning Lights Guide in Anderson, SC

October 1st, 2025 by

Here at Hyundai of Anderson, we often encounter customers who have questions and concerns about their dashboard warning lights. We understand that seeing an unfamiliar symbol illuminate on your dash can be concerning, so our Service Department has put together this guide to help you understand what your Hyundai ELANTRA is trying to tell you!

Check Engine Light

The check engine light is perhaps the most frequently misunderstood warning indicator. This amber-colored engine symbol can illuminate for dozens of reasons, ranging from a loose gas cap to more serious engine issues. At our Service Department, we recommend having your ELANTRA diagnosed as soon as possible when this light appears. Our technicians use specialized diagnostic equipment to read the trouble codes stored in your vehicle’s computer, allowing us to pinpoint the exact issue quickly and accurately.

Battery Warning Light

When you see the battery symbol illuminate while driving, it doesn’t necessarily mean your battery is dead. More often, this indicates a problem with your charging system, such as a failing alternator or a loose serpentine belt. If this light comes on, we advise heading to our Service Department immediately, as your vehicle may stop running once the battery’s reserve power is depleted.

Oil Pressure Warning Light

The red oil can symbol is one warning you should never ignore. Low oil pressure can cause severe engine damage in a matter of minutes. If this light appears during your Anderson travels, safely pull over and turn off your engine immediately, then call for a tow to our facility. Our technicians will check your oil level and inspect for leaks or oil pump failure.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

The horseshoe-shaped light with an exclamation point indicates that one or more of your tires has low pressure. Temperature changes often trigger this warning, especially during seasonal transitions. Stop by our Service Department for a free tire pressure check and adjustment. We’ll also inspect your tires for leaks or damage that might be causing pressure loss.

Brake System Warning Light

When the brake warning light illuminates, it could mean several things: your parking brake is engaged, your brake fluid is low, or there’s a problem with your braking system. If the light stays on with the parking brake released, bring your ELANTRA to us immediately. Brake system issues require urgent attention to ensure your safety as you cruise down Route 178.

ABS Warning Light

The ABS light specifically indicates an issue with your anti-lock braking system. While your regular brakes will still function, you won’t have the ABS safety feature during emergency braking situations. Schedule a service appointment promptly so our technicians can diagnose and repair the system.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Light

A flashing ESC light means the system is actively working to help maintain vehicle control, which is normal on slippery roads. However, if the light stays on continuously, it indicates a malfunction that needs our attention.

Temperature Warning Light

The thermometer symbol in red indicates your engine is overheating. If this indicator appears during a casual drive to Carolina Wren Park, pull over safely, turn off the engine, and wait for it to cool before checking coolant levels. Never open the radiator cap while the engine is hot. If you’re unsure, call our technicians for guidance or have your ELANTRA towed in.
