Edmonds Charging Test #1 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6
“This morning we launched the Edmunds EV Charging Test as a standard-setting, empirical measure of the time taken to add range to an EV’s battery at a fast charger. Until now there has been no industry standard for measuring charging speeds — auto manufacturers have been able to pick and choose charging data to highlight the best attributes of their vehicles without scrutiny. The Edmunds EV Charging Test establishes a new standard, based on real-world testing and empirical data. We’ve currently tested more than forty vehicles and will update our table as new electric vehicles become available. Put simply, it’s a measure of how long you’ll be stopped to re-charge on a family road trip. We describe this as the average miles per charging hour, and to provide additional context, we also quote the average time it takes to add 100 miles of charge. For example, the Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차) Ioniq 6 Limited RWD added range at an average of 868 miles per charging hour, the equivalent of adding 100 miles in 6 minutes, 54 seconds. To achieve this metric, the Edmunds EV Charging Test combines charging speed data from our partner, automotive consultants P3 Group, with the results of the Edmunds EV Efficiency Test. We believe this measure is a hugely important data point for consumers choosing a new electric vehicle and sits alongside the Edmunds EV Range Test in our EV testing portfolio. The inaugural Edmunds EV Charging Test leaderboard and more details about the methodology can be found at edmunds.com/charging. .” -Alistair Weaver
